제주도 한라산에서 자생하는 마가목을 본 적이 있다
마가목은 당마가목에 비하여 잎, 꽃차례 축, 동아 인편에 털이 없다(약간 있기도 한다).
마가목 동아에 약간의 털이 있는 경우 당마가목으로 오인하기도 한다.
동아 인편에 끈끈한 점성이 있다.
