목향(국화과 금불초속)

15년 전 교감으로 승진하여 부임한 학교 한 켠 교사를 뜯어낸 터에 야생 식물원이 조성되어 있었던 기억이 있다.

 

아마도 인근 약용식물연구소의 도움을 받지 않았나 싶었는데

그 곳에 멀대처럼 키가 큰 식물이 있었는데 줄기 끝에 작은 해바라기 모양의 꽃을 여러 개 피우던 게 인상적이었더랬다.

 

나중에 약용으로 재배하기도 하는 목향이라는 걸 알게 되었는데

이 녀석이 지금 금불초속 원고 집필을 아직까지 마무리 짓지 못하게 하는 주인공이다.

 

지난 5월 의성유기농업연구소 약초 포지에서 필요한 자료를 찾던 중에 목향 어린 잎을 발견하고 꽃이 피면 가 봐야지 하고 있었는데

대구수목원을 돌아다니다가 뜻밖에 개화한 목향을 만나게 되어서 일부러 의성까지 발걸음 하지 않아도 되었다.

 

습지에서는 허탕을 쳐서 더위에 지친 몸에 더 낙심이 되었지만 이 녀석 자료를 확보할 수 있어서 그나마 다행이었다.

어린 개체들은 많지만 꽃대는 2~3개체 밖에 올리지 못하였는데 꽃 상태가 좋아서 자료를 충분하게 얻을 수 있었다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

외총포 모양은 작은 잎 모양의 난형이다

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

줄기잎은 엽저가 귀처럼 줄기를 감싼다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

전초가 2m 에 이를 정도로 키가 큰 녀석이다
