국내에 분포하는 피막이속 식구들 중에서 꽃이 많이 달리고 잎이 가장 큰 녀석이다.
열매는 15~40개 편원형 모양의 열매가 달리는데 잎이 크며 엽저가 포개지지 않고 약간 벌어진다.
잎자루와 줄기, 잎 양면에 잔털이 많으며 화서에 녹백색 꽃이 많이 달린다.
