안동에서는 이 녀석을 머구나물이라 부른다.
보드라운 잎을 호박잎처럼 살짝 쪄서 쌈으로 이용하는데 시골집 뒷담 아래 많이들 보이곤 했었다.
주먹처럼 돋아 나는 화서는 볼품이 없지만 그 녀석도 꽃이라고 자세하게 들여다 보니 이쁜 구석이 있다.
머위는 암수딴그루로 이 녀석은 암꽃의 역할을 하는 양성화이다
가운데 5갈래로 얕게 갈라진 꽃이 수꽃이고 주변에 길게 암술대를 올린게 암꽃이다
꽃은 지름 7-10mm로서 산방화서에 다닥다닥 달리고 포가 밑부분을 둘러싸며 화경은 길이 1-2.5cm이다.
아래는 양성화의 모습으로 암꽃은 흰색이며, 끝이 입술 모양으로 얕게 갈라지고, 암술은 꽃부리 밖으로 길게 나온다.
암꽃 가우데 난 수꽃은 연한 흰색이며, 끝이 5갈래로 얕게 갈라진다
평행한 맥이 있는 포가 화경에서 호생한다.
