바닥에 지네가 기어가는 듯 가느다란 줄기가 바닥에 깔려 있다. 
삽화도감과 고산 도감의 학명은 Harrimanella stelleriana (Pall.) Coville인데
큐 식물원에서는 Cassiope stelleriana (Pall.) Coville의 동의어로 기재되어 있다.
 
일본명 '지무카데' ジムカデ 로 지네란 뜻을 가지고 있다.
잔설이 늦게 까지 남는 고산지역에서 자생하는 상록성소관목이다.
캄차카에서 북 일본 및 중부 일본, 아북극 아메리카에서 워싱턴까지 분포하고 있다.
