2010 년 부터 꽃동무 덕분으로 관찰해 오던 녀석이다.
2015년 다른이에 의하여 그늘별꽃으로 발표가 되었지만 꽃동무는 이미 그 이전 부터 관찰하고 있었다.
꽃동무가 의뢰한 제주도의 기관에서 어영부영하는 사이에 그 정보를 다른 쪽에서 가져가 버린 셈이 된 것이다.

그늘별꽃은 수술이 10개이고 수술의 길이가 꽃잎 길이 정도로 길고 꽃밥이 연한 노란색을 띠고 있다.
별꽃과 달리 줄기 꽃이 달린 잎에도 잎자루가 있고 잎가장자리가 구불구불한 웨이브성 거치가 있다.
사실 제주도에서는 오래 전 부터 자생하고 있었지만
다들 무관심하게 지나쳐 버리다가 관심을 가진 꽃쟁이가 눈길을 주어서 세상에 드러나게 된 것이다.
꽃밥이 붉은 별꽃에 비하여 그늘별꽃의 꽃밥은 미색이다
쇠별꽃이나 별꽃에 비하여 꽃이 훨씬 크다.
줄기 위쪽의 잎에도 잎자루가 있다.
