최근까지 남방바람꽃으로 알려져 있던 이 녀석을 네이쳐에서 남바람꽃이란 이름으로 개명을 하고 올려져 있다.
헌데 이 녀석은 한국표준식물목록에도 올라 있지 않는데 실체가 분명하게 있는데 표준식물목록에는 등록이 안되어 있다는 사실이 의아스럽다
이 녀석이 남바람꽃으로 불려야 한다는 주장에 대하여 얼마 전 제주에 내려갔다가 꽃동무와 함께 이야기를 나눈 적이 있다.
제주의 1100습지에서 자연생태해설가로 근무하면서 인터넷 일간 매체에 장기간 식물 관련 글을 기고하고 있던
꽃동무가 얼마 전에 썼던 남방바람꽃에 관한 글 중 일부이다
| 남방바람꽃이라는 이름은 남쪽에 피는 바람꽃이라는 뜻일 텐데 재미있는 것은 북방계 식물이라는 것입니다. 그런데 남방바람꽃은 남바람꽃, 봉성바람꽃이라 부르기도 하고 심지어 제주에서 발견될 때는 한라바람꽃이라 하기도 하여 헷갈리게 합니다. 남방바람꽃은 1942년 박만규 박사에 의해 전남 구례에서 처음 발견되었다고 하는데 남바람꽃이라는 이름으로 박만규 박사에 의해 작성된 글이 전해집니다. 그런데 어찌된 일인지 해방 후 박만규 박사가 저술한 '우리나라 식물명고'(1949)라는 책에는 봉성바람꽃이라 나와 있고 있고 또한 '한국쌍자엽식물지'(1974)에는 남방바람꽃이라고 하여 계속해서 이름을 바꾸고 있습니다. 남방바람꽃에 대한 정리가 그때까지 되지 않아서 식물의 발견자가 이름을 바꾸고 있는 것인지 아니면 다른 이유가 있었던 것인지 궁금합니다. 그 후 출간된 이상태의 '한국식물검색집'(1997)에도 남방바람꽃이라 쓰고 있고 모두 그렇게 부르고 있었는데 최근 국가생물종지식정보시스템이라고 하는 인터넷 사이트에서 다시 남바람꽃이라는 국명을 사용하면서 이름에 대한 논란이 있습니다. 처음 박만규 박사에 의해 쓰였던 글이 논문의 형식으로 세상에 발표된 것이 확실하다면 식물의 선취권이라는 면에서 남바람꽃으로 불러야 맞을 것입니다. 하지만 발견 당시 썼다고 하는 이 글에는 식물이 발견된 시점만 있을 뿐 왜 남바람꽃으로 했는지에 대한 설명이 없고 또한 언제 어느 학술지에 발표된 것인지에 대한 정보도 없기 때문에 남바람꽃으로 정리하는 것이 쉽지 않습니다. |
헌데 오늘 꽃동무로부터 연락이 왔다.
박만규 박사가 1942년에 투고한 글이 실린 조선식물학회잡지 제9권 제35호(소화17년 7월30일 조선식물학회 발행)호 책을 소장하고 있다는 S박사로부터 꽃동무한테 연락이 온 바로는 박만규 박사는 이 글을 일본어로 발표하였으며 <남바람꽃> 이란 국명을 쓰지도 않았다는 것이다.
그러면 위 꽃동무의 기고 글 중

이 부분은 잘못 확인이 된 오류로 정리가 된다
그 때가 일본침탈 시기인 만큼 우리 나라 국명을 사용할 리가 없을 건 뻔한 일이고
박만규 박사도 <박택무웅>이란 일본 이름을 사용하고 있었다.
이 곳에 박만규박사는 새롭게 발견하였다는 바람꽃을 <리린소우>란 일본명으로 기록을 하고 있다고 하는데....
위의 발췌 글에서도 밝혔듯이 박만규 박사가 언급한 바람꽃 국명은
'우리 나라 식물명고'(1949)라는 책에는 <봉성바람꽃>이라 나와 있고 있고
또한 '한국쌍자엽식물지'(1974)에는 남방바람꽃이라고 기술이 되어 있다는 것인데
이는 쌍자엽식물지를 가지고 있는 꽃동무가 직접 확인한 사실이라 한다.
어떻게 하여 왜?
박만규 박사가 최초로 <남바람꽃> 이란 이름을 사용하였다고 주장을 하는 지 모르겠다는 꽃동무의 말에 일견 수긍이 된다.
국생정에서 남바람꽃으로 이름을 바꾼 이유가
박만규박사가 1942년도에 남바람꽃이란 이름을 최초로 사용하였다는 근거로 <조선식물학회잡지>를 들었다면
그 글을 직접 확인하지 않고 누군가 그렇다고 하더라 하는 말을 듣고 그렇게 주장하는 것은 아닐런지......
그렇다면 박만규박사가 '한국쌍자엽식물지'(1974)에 마지막으로 발표한 남방바람꽃으로 불러 주는 게 맞지 않을까..

이 글을 올린 후 전의식 선생님 블러그에서
1942년에 박만규 박사가 기고한 글로 보이는 글을 읽어 보았다(1942년 조선식물학회잡지 제9권 제35호 실려 있던)
그 글은 박만규선생님이 직접 쓴 게 아니라 1942년에 일본어로 기고한 글(위의 사진 속의 책자)을
누군가 번역한 글을 올겨 놓은 것으로 짐작이 되는데 그 번역문에서<남바람꽃> 이란 국명이 나온다.
위에서도 언급했 듯이 박만규 박사는 1942년 일본어로 글을 기고하였으니 <남바람꽃>이란 국명을 직접 언급한 적이 없다는 게 확실하다. 다만 번역 과정에서 번역자가<남바람꽃>으로 번역했을 가능성이 농후하다
꽃동무가 소장하고 있는 '한국쌍자엽식물지'와 꽃동무가 확인한 '우리 나라 식물명고'에서
박만규박사가 기고한 글 속에 언급한 이름은 <봉성바람꽃>과 <남방바람꽃> 이라는 것이다
그래서 여태 남방바람꽃으로 국생정에서도 올려져 있었고, 식물애호가들 사이에도 남방바람꽃으로 있었던 것이다

「자생식물 및 산림유전자원보호구역 관리요령」산림청 예규 제588호(2010.11.01)에 남바람꽃 Anemone flaccida F.Schmidt 으로 고시되어 Nature에 남바람꽃으로 적용되고 있는 것 같다는 새로운 사실을 접하였다.
