꽃이 사라진 덕유산 능선에 고본 열매가 풍성하다.
고본과 거의 비슷한 개회향은 고본에 비하여 소형이고 소산경의 수도 더 적고 바위지대에 주로 서식한다 1. 키 : 개회향 10~30cm, 고본 30~80cm. 전체 키는 개회향이 작음
2. 향기 : 둘 다 한약 냄새 같은 향기가 강함.
3. 잎모양 : 개회향은3~4회 깃꼴겹잎, 고본은 3회 깃꼴겹잎. 개회향 : 풍성하게 달리고 열편이 실처럼 가늘고 짧으며 부드러우며 연약해 보임.
고본 : 열편이 개회향보다 길고 실이라기 보다 코스모스 잎 정도의 너비가 있으며 튼실한 느낌, 4. 꽃 : 고본의 꽃밥은 자주색임. 개회향의 꽃밥에 대하여 언급된 곳은 없음
5. 총산경 : 개회향은 10개 미만이고, 고본은 15~20개 정도이다.
고본은 3~4회 깃꼴겹잎으로 열편이 개회향보다 길고 코스모스 잎 정도의 너비가 있으며 튼실한 느낌을 준다.아래 잎은 4~5회 깃꼴이다.
