산벚나무로 조사된 것이 있다면 이는 오동정으로 보면 된다. 산벚나무는 설악산 같은 고산지대 산 능선부에 분포하여 만나기 쉽지 않은 녀석이다. 꽃자루와 자방, 암술대에 털이 없다 잎자루에 털이 보이긴 하지만 일반적으로 잎과 잎자루에 털이 거의 없다 산벚나무에 비하여 꽃차례꽃자루가 발달한다. 개화기에 짧은 모습이 비늘잎에 가려져서 산벚나무로 오인한 적이 있는데
